A database for Plasmodium falciparum protein models

چکیده
UNLABELLED There is an urgent need for developing alternate strategies to combat Malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum (P. falciparum) because of growing drug resistance and increased incidents of infection in humans. 3D models of P. falciparum annotated proteins using molecular modeling techniques will enhance our understanding about the mechanism of host parasite interactions for the identification of drug targets and malarial vaccine design. Potential structural templates for P. falciparum annotated proteins were selected from PDB (protein databank) using BLASTP (basic local alignment search tool for proteins). This exercise identified 476 Plasmodium proteins with one or more known structural templates (>or= 40 % identity) for further modeling. The pair-wise sequence alignments generated for protein modeling were manually checked for error. The models were then constructed using MODELLER (a comparative protein modelling program for modelling protein structures) followed by energy minimization in AMBER force field and checked for error using PROCHECK. Genetic Diversity Block 2 of Surface Protein-1 in Plasmodium Falciparum Merozoite by Nested-PCR Method in Southeastern Iran
Abstract Background and Objectives: Plasmodium falciparum merozoite surface protein-1 (PfMSP-1) is a promising vaccine against malaria during its blood stages which play an important role in immunity to this disease. Polymorphic nature of this gene is a major obstacle in making an effective vaccine against malaria. In this study, the genetic diversity of Plasmodi...
متن کاملThe ABO Blood Group System and Plasmodium Infection in Iran: A Comprehensive Study
Background: Geographical distribution of ABO blood groups affects by race, ethnicity, migration and some infectious agents, such as Plasmodium species. P. falciparum is the major causative agent of death in malaria that can affect ABO blood group distribution in different populations. Therefore, the objective of the current study was to determine the effect of p. falciparum on ABO blood group d...
متن کاملDetection of new protein domains using co-occurrence: application to Plasmodium falciparum
MOTIVATION Hidden Markov models (HMMs) have proved to be a powerful tool for protein domain identification in newly sequenced organisms. However, numerous domains may be missed in highly divergent proteins. This is the case for Plasmodium falciparum proteins, the main causal agent of human malaria. RESULTS We propose a method to improve the sensitivity of HMM domain detection by exploiting th...
متن کاملGenotyping of C and F Regions of Plasmodium Falciparum EBA-175 in South-East of Iran
Abstract Background and Objective: The Plasmodium falciparum EBA-175, via Sialic acid dependent glycophorin A, binds to red blood cells and thus plays a critical role in cell invasion. Some part of second allele in its gene encoding in FCR-3 (Section F) and CAMP (Section C) can be found. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of Plasmodium falciparum EBA-175KD alleles in southeastern I...
متن کاملMolecular Evidence on Changing Pattern of Mixed Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax Infections during Year-Round Transmission of Malaria in Chahbahar, Iran
Mixed malaria infections, Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax, are suspected to occur at a greater frequency than is detected by conventional light microscopy. In order to determine the year round pattern of transmission and the frequency of mixed infections in malaria endemic area, we carried out a prospective comparison of diagnosis by conventional light microscopy and nested PCR in Chahbahar ...
